YOU ARE WHAT YOU TASTE
"How bodily changes shape taste sensation"
Taste evokes rapid, stereotyped responses that drive food acceptance or rejection. We study how the neural circuits underlying these hardwired behaviors are organized -- for example, how tasting food triggers salivation.
However, taste perception is not fixed. Illness, hunger or satiety, and other internal bodily states can reshape how foods are experienced. We investigate how these state-dependent changes in taste arise in the brain.
