The Dizzy Brain
"How collision of senses causes sickness"
When physiological stress is detected, the body sends alarm signals to alert the brain, initiating necessary actions. For example, ingestion of toxins can induce discomfort leading to expelling stomach contents. Similarly, mismatches in postural and balance information can cause dizziness to encourage sheltering.
We study brain circuits responsible for these 'nausea' responses.
